Rigidalstock Via Ferrata route (at 2,593 metres)

Description

An easy route requiring average stamina, well suited for beginners. Climbers are clipped on to a steel cable at all times. Familiarity with climbing safety equipment is required.

South face of the Rigidalstock (at 2,593m)

Starting point

Brunnihütte (at 1,860m) accessible via cable car and chairlift from Engelberg via Ristis. Follow the mountain trail (white and blue blaze) or the Brunnistöckli Via Ferrata route.

Hiking time

90 min for the hike from the Brunnihütte

90 min. for the Via Ferrata route

60 min. for the descent

Note

Please use the marked mountain trail (blue and white blaze). The descent from the summit is made from the Rigidalstock Via Ferrata route in the direction Schonegg Brunnistöckli, then via the mountain trail (blue and white blaze) in the direction oft he Brunnihütte. (Do not attempt de descent the Via Ferrata route!)

Equipment

Use of climbing gear is required (climbing harness, rope and helmet) and sturdy hiking boots are recommended. Equipment can be rented at the Brunni lift station (quantities are limited!) or at various sports stores in Engelberg.

Rules

- Via Ferrata routes have inherent dangers.

- Use oft he Via Ferrata route is at your own risk.

- Never have blind faith in the cables, hooks and anchors. They

  could be damaged. (Please report any defects!)

- Alpine climbing gear is required (helmet, harness and rope).

- Recommended only for sure-footed and fit users without a fear of

  heights. Special dangers inherent with wet surfaces!

- Take note of the weather conditions. Do not attempt the Via

  Ferrata route in rain, snow, high winds or storms!

- Use care on the route so that no rockslides are released!

- On the route, attempt to climb to the best of your ability; the

  cables are there as a safety measure.

- Not recommended for children under 8 years of age.
