The Walenpfad is a unique alpine hiking trail from Brunni to Bannalp (located above Wolfenschiessen).

Ristis (at 1,600 meters) is the starting point of this hike. You may either begin here and take the “Brunni Pfad” nature trail via Hütismatt to Rosenbold (at 1,863 metres) or start your hike at the Brunnihütte SAC (at 1,860 metres) where it is possible to ride up in comfort with the chairlift from Ristis and take the traverse along the idyllic “Härzlisee” to the Rosenbold Alp.
Here you can enjoy the last views of the unique landscape above Engelberg before heading further along the trail to Walenalp (at 1,667 metres). The large “Schweizer-Familie” grill site (wood and water available) is the perfect place for a break, with views of Central Switzerland.
 
The trail leads to the highest point at Walegg (at 1,943 metres), featuring spectacular views of the region. The trail passes Alp Oberfeld (at 1,820 metres), with a possibility of stopping for food and drinks, and continues on the left side of the Bannalp lake with a descent to the Restaurant Urnerstaffel (at 1,690 metres), where it is possible to stay overnight. Then it is just a hop, skip and a jump to the Fell-Chrüzhütte cable car (at 1,713 metres).

With the cable car it is possible to ride from Bannalp to the lovely little hamlet of Oberrickenbach. The PostAuto bus takes hikers further to the village of Wolfenschiessen or to the train station.

The hiking trail can be walked in both directions.
