Brunni Pfad Nature Trail
Nature - Experience - Discover
The "Brunni Pfad" is a unique circular panoramic path that provides the opportunity to learn more about the surrounding nature while walking. The nature trail is 7 km long and has a 300-metre difference in altitude, with an average hiking time of 2.5 hours.
The nature trail leads hikers through splendid alpine pastures with various wildflowers and offers a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. The trail is well maintained and also passable in wet weather. There are three grill sites located along the trail. By riding the chairlift, it is possible to hike only one half of the trail as well.
The motto of this trail is “hiking through the Alpine habitat.” In order that hikers become more familiar with the alpine environment and our impact on this ecosystem, there are 12 information boards along the path which provide information on a variety of themes: the flora and fauna, the mountain forest, the regional geology as well as the relationship between tourism and the alpine environment. In addition, over 140 different plants are identified along the trail to indicate the variety of species in the Brunni region.
Several Swiss woodcarvers have created sculptures along the trail as part of the "Artifex Montanus" effort especially for the lifts on Brunni.
The Brunni Pfad is a particularly interesting destination for school groups because it is possible to combine learning with fun here and enjoy a summer toboggan ride after the hike. Students are provided with a questionnaire which they must complete while hiking and which can be integrated into a lesson plan. Detailed information on various themes can be found in the 70-page Brunni Pfad brochure that can be purchased for Fr. 15. With advanced reservation it is possible for school groups to have a guided tour of the Brunni Pfad.
The Brunni Pfad’s goal is not to lecture hikers about nature, but to encourage a deeper appreciation for nature and to enable hikers to become more aware of the small and inconspicuous items along the trail and their value.
