Description

Two via ferratas:

- Rigidalstockgrat (east): An medium-level via ferrata suitable for beginners, which requires a good level of fitness. Climbers are secured by a steel cable throughout the course, and proper knowledge and use of the safety and climbing equipment is required. Climb down the same way.

- Rigidalstockwand (west): A difficult-level via ferrata not suitable for beginners, which requires a very good level of fitness. Climbers are secured by a steel cable throughout the course, and proper knowledge and use of the safety and climbing equipment is required. Climb down the other via ferrata (east).

- Rigidalstockgrat (east): K3 (B/C)

- Rigidalstockwand (west): K3-4 (C)

South and west face of the Rigidalstock (2,593 metres a.s.l.)

Starting point

The Brunnihütte can be reached by cableway or chairlift from Engelberg via Ristis. Then take the marked path (white-and-blue mountain path) or the via ferratas Brunnistöckli or Zittergrat.

Duration

1.5 h from the Brunnihütte to the starting point
1 h - 1.5 h for via ferrata ascent
1.5 h for the descent

Total: 4 - 5 hours

Details

Please use the marked path (white-and-blue mountain path) or the via ferratas Brunnistöckli or Zittergrat to get to the starting point. The only way to descend from the summit is to take the via ferrata Rigidalstockgrat (east) and on the same way back to the Brunni mountain hut.

Equipment

Only enter the via ferratas in complete climbing gear (e.g. climbing harness, climbing set, helmet, good footwear, suitable clothing). A helmet is mandatory for protection from fallling rocks.

Equipment can be hired from the Brunni cableways directly at the Härzlisee (Kräuterhütte).

Liability

Pass through at your own risk. Insurance protection is up to each individual, hence there is no accepted liability.

Don't trust in wire, ropes and hooks, they could be damaged. Please report any safety defects you observe!

Important notice
  1. Via ferratas are particularly dangerous climbs.
  2. To get through safely it is a prerequisite to be in good condition, have surefootedness and no fear of heights (vertigo).
  3. Enter only during stable weather conditions; climbing during thunderstorms and wet conditions is life-threatening! The via ferrata can be particularly dangerous when wet.
  4. The routes have no emergency exits!! A small emergency cave is located in via ferrata Rigidalstockwand at an altitude of 2505 m above sea level.
  5. Be considerate of other climbers; climbing down only on Klettersteig Rigidalstockgrat.
  6. Respect fauna and flora; do not leave any rubbish behind; do not descent in direction to Walenalp / Bannalp (fauna protected area).
